Product Description
This piece was painted as a body of work further investigating the idea of finality and the fleeting existence of the material world. I chose to use bullfighting as a visual catalyst in exploring death and intricacies of existence. As a child I remember my grandmother telling me about the time she spent in Spain as a young woman. Her telling stories of the bullfights that she attended created visual imagery for me that as a child stuck with me. Never attending a bullfight myself there’s something exotic about it, the colors and the pageantry can be romanticized against the contrasting physicality of the fight. My stance on the relevance and ethics of bullfighting in modern day is not the focus or intention of this body but rather to explore this long time cultural phenomenon.

Do you have a reason why you chose certain original images to become prints?
This has always been one of my favorite pieces
When did you first consider yourself an artist?
Good question, I still vacillate on that one. For some reason I’ve never really liked referring to myself as an artist, maybe it’s because my creative process also includes building things that may not be viewed as art, surfboards, furniture, anything that I can think up really. For some reason I’ve alway fought defining things which probably makes me a terrible significant other.
Growing up, were there particular artists you idealized?
I’ve always loved Pablo Picasso’s work, Francis Bacon, Calder
Are there any present day artists that inspire you or influence your work?
I really dig Joram Roukes, Dave Kinsey, and long list of other contemporaries too long to name.
